I’m drawn to art that you just want to reach out and touch.
About Gary Casey
Gary (Gats) Casey is an Irish artist based in Copenhagen, Denmark. Originally from Mallow, County, Cork. He relocated to Denmark and founded Gats Studio in the heart of Copenhagen five years ago, where he now lives and works with his wife.
A self-taught painter, Gary's practice began early when he pursued art outside the traditional school curriculum, earning high honors before developing his own techniques through exploration of texture, layering, and material experimentation. His distinctive works, defined by tactile surfaces and vibrant interplay of depth and color, invite both visual and physical engagement.
In 2020, the global pandemic became a turning point. Leaving behind a twenty-year career, Gary embraced art full-time. Since then, his work has been exhibited internationally in New York, Madrid, Rome, Copenhagen, and Miami.
Artist Statement
Gary Casey's work is defined by his fascination with texture, layering, and depth. Each piece emerges through an intuitive process of building and pulling back paint, allowing hidden tones and underlayers to surface. This dynamic approach gives his canvases a tactile quality that compels both visual and physical engagement.
As a dyslexic artist, Casey brings a unique rhythm and diversity to his practice, embracing variation rather than repetition. His compositions reflect a constant search for balance between structure and spontaneity, surface and depth, color and shadow.
The body of his works captures an evolution as an artist, who has transformed change and challenge into a language of texture, energy, and material exploration.

I feel very privileged to have my own studio. The freedom it gives me to create, learn and develop my art, and my style has been life changing for me. It has been a goal of mine for a long time. Now that I have my own work studio, I plan in making the best of this beautiful space.
I’d love to show you my work in the studio. Just get in touch and i’ll set up a time for your private viewing.
